Deputy Prime Minister Liviu Dragnea, Minister of Regional Development and Public Administration, announced today the objectives of the ministry for the Regional Operational Programme 2007-2013 (ROP). "The target of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration, by the end of this year, is to absorb at least one billion euros for the projects carried out under the Regional Operational Programme. After the projects signed today and after we also sign those scheduled tomorrow, we will reach 200 million," said the Deputy Prime Minister.

Other MRDPA priorities in the field refer to the removal of blockages and simplification of procedures in the process of accessing European funds, with a direct effect on accelerating the absorption rate.

"In recent years we have become accustomed to many blockages. Because of these blockages, these projects were left in drawers for several years. Since I came to the ministry, we have simplified procedures, we have looked carefully at the so-called blockages, so we would not hinder projects," Liviu Dragnea pointed out.

The Minister of Regional Development and Public Administration also pointed out that the project on Romania's regionalisation was aimed precisely at the balanced development of the country within each region. "Regionalisation is not made on ethnic criteria, or political criteria either. Our goal is that, within a reasonable time, each locality has a minimum package of utilities and facilities for public services - from water supply and sewerage networks, to schools, health centres, road and pedestrian infrastructure," said Liviu Dragnea.

The contracts signed today refer to urban infrastructure rehabilitation projects submitted by the municipality of Pitesti under the Integrated urban development plan of the city (IUDP).

The project "Rehabilitation of the urban infrastructure in the municipality of Pitesti" is aimed the restoration of urban infrastructure in the city - alleys, sidewalks, parks, green spaces, playgrounds, carriageable roads and bicycle tracks – on an area of over 35 hectares. The works will take place in the Central Area, Bucharest Area, Teilor-Marasesti Area and Exercitiu Area. The main beneficiaries are the residents of the area, but also those passing through town. The total value of the project is 89.98 million lei, of which the non-reimbursable financial allocation amounts to 86 million lei.

The project "Podul Viilor Flyover in Pitesti Municipality" is aimed at modernising the passage, simultaneously with restoring two roundabouts, modernising five roads and the public transport network on a length of about 3 km. The total value of the project is 40.86 million lei, of which the non-reimbursable financial allocation amounts to 31.99 million lei.
