Liviu Dragnea in Paris: "For an effective regionalisation, it is important to cooperate with countries that have already implemented this process."

21 March 2013

On Thursday, 21 March, Deputy Prime Minister Liviu Dragnea, Minister of Regional Development and Public Administration, attended the high-level seminar on Franco-Romanian decentralised cooperation, organised in Paris by the Romanian Embassy in France.

"We want the regionalisation process that we have in view to be efficient, so it is important to cooperate with the countries that have already implemented such a process, such as France. Organising such joint seminars, we can learn what mistakes other countries have done, to avoid them in our own actions. We are also interested to see what powers were delegated to the regions, by the French model, and what remained at central level. That is why I always say that regionalisation should be done in parallel with decentralisation," Liviu Dragnea said at the seminar.

The organisation of the Seminar was agreed on the occasion of the meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Liviu Dragnea and H.E. Philippe Gustin, the Ambassador of France to Bucharest, in January. The event was also attended by representatives of local authorities from Romania.

Deputy Prime Minister Liviu Dragnea was present at the Seminar during the working visit paid by the MRDPA delegation to France, during the period 20-21 March.

On the first day of the visit, the Romanian Deputy Prime Minister met with Alain Rousset, President of the Association of Regions of France, with Bruno Le Roux, deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis, President of the PS group of the National Assembly, and with Andre Laignel, Mayor of Issoudun, delegated First Vice President of the Association of Mayors of France.

In the same context, on Thursday, 21 March, Liviu Dragnea had a series of bilateral meetings with Marylise Lebranchu, French Minister of State Reform, Decentralisation and Civil Service, and with Michel Delebarre, President of the Association of Urban Communities in France and of the Cites Unies France association.
