Minister Cristian Petrescu Opened in Suceava the First National Centre for Tourism Information and Promotion Financed by European Funds

02 March 2012

Today, 2 March, the Minister of Regional Development and Tourism, Cristian Petrescu, was in Suceava, where he attended the opening of the first national centre for tourism information and promotion financed by the European funds allocated to Romania for this purpose, under the Regional Operational Programme 2007-2013 ( Regio), managed by the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism (MRDT).

"The finalisation of this information center is a great asset for tourism in the region. Its set up was a necessity that the county council identified correctly and timely, given Bucovina's tourism importance. I am extremely pleased that we can see the first concrete results of the investments of this type, financed by the European funds that the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism manages. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the project does not end with this inauguration, but it is only the first step in implementing a quality service. I recommend the local authority, but also the staff employed here to always have an eye to the proposed targets. With the opening of this centre, you must focus on providing quality services and also highly topical information, as complete as possible," said Minister Cristian Petrescu, who attended the event.
The total value of the project is 1,747,984.12 lei, of which 1,354,779.68 lei represents non-reimbursable funds. Besides the actual construction, the project provides equipping and organising the centre for its effective operation. Thus, the building of about 300 sq.m. will have adequate furniture, computer equipment and software, and the employees will have a database with tourist information at their disposal. At the same time, the contracted European funds finance the creation of promotion materials: a website, maps, leaflets and posters.

Later, Minister Cristian Petrescu verified the state of the work initiated last year by the county council in partnership with the local council for the rehabilitation of Suceava Citadel of the Throne and its protection area. The project, with a total value of 52,598,065.27 lei, benefits from non-reimbursable financing in the amount of 41,032,113.71 lei under the Regio programme. At the end of the visit, Minister Cristian Petrescu signed the contract under which the Suceava County Council receives financing from European non-reimbursable funds for the project "Modernisation of county road 175, km 30+800+30+900, 31+090+32+625, 35+900+39+000, Pojorata – Izvoarele Sucevei". The project will be financed by the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI), under the Romania - Ukraine – Republic of Moldova Joint Operational Programme 2007-2013, managed by the MRDT. The project, with a total value of 2,607,036 euros, of which 2,343,725 euros ENPI financing will run for a period of 21 months and its objective is to improve the infrastructure of the historical region of Bukovina by rehabilitating the county road that provides direct connection to the border crossing point of Izvoarele Sucevei - Sepit and to the national road DN 17.
