''As I promised when I was nominated minister, I have established a strategic partnership between the Ministry and the Capital's City Hall to solve the stringent problems at Bucharest level. The project destined to road rehabilitation in Sudului Square, for which we have signed the financing contract today, is part of this partnership. I congratulate you, Mr. Mayor, for the success, it is an important project for Bucharest," said Minister Eduard Hellvig, at the signature of the contract.

''The achievement of Sudului Square Underpass is the largest project in Bucharest run with funds from the European Union, and today's event is very important because we have been waiting for four years to obtain this financing. The total value of the project is 127.1 million lei, of which 96.4 million lei represents non-reimbursable financial assistance. The Sudului Square Passage will reduce traffic time by 74% and, after its finalisation, the main ring road will close. Thank you once again, Mr. Minister, both you and the collaborators in the ministry for the kindness and professionalism you have proven," said General Mayor Sorin Oprescu.

The project will contribute to decongesting traffic in the direction Vacaresti Road - Nitu Vasile street, by making a road underpass and a roundabout at the intersection, to traffic fluidity, by making four pedestrian underpasses crossing the Olteniţei Road and to restoring and modernising the tram and trolleybus lines, the pedestrian areas and the green spaces, as well as the entire urban network system in the area.

The financing of the project is provided under the Priority Axis 2 of the Regio programme - "Improvement of regional and local transport infrastructure", key area of intervention 2.1 "Rehabilitation and modernisation of county roads and urban streets - including construction/rehabilitation of ring roads".

This is the second financing contract signed by Minister Eduard Hellvig with General Mayor Oprescu after the project of rehabilitation, modernisation and equipping of the integrated ambulatory of the "Dr. Victor Gomoiu" Clinical Children's Hospital. In total, six projects, worth 202.8 million lei, were approved for financing under the Regio programme, out of the eight submitted by the Bucharest City Hall so far.
